For Indoor Cricket Championship (ICC) Season 2, there are several important points that franchises must understand prior to the drafting process. Through this announcement, we are providing details regarding player retentions, which must be finalized before the draft.
As per ICC reserved rights, each franchise is permitted to retain a maximum of three (3) players from its previous 12-member squad. Franchises may retain only one player from each category, including Platinum, Diamond, Gold, Silver, and Emerging.
A key aspect of Season 2 is that ICC will announce player promotions and demotions based on their current performance and their form during ICC Season 1. Player category eligibility for retention will be determined after these promotions and demotions are finalized. If a retained player’s category changes, the retention will be counted under the updated category, not the previous one.
For example, if Player A was previously in the Diamond category and is promoted to Platinum for Season 2, retaining Player A will count as a Platinum retention. Similarly, if Player B was previously in the Platinum category and is demoted to Gold, the retention will be counted under the Gold category.
As another example, if a franchise retains 2 players 1 from the Diamond category and 1 from the Gold category and the Gold-category player is promoted to Diamond, the franchise will then have two Diamond-category players. In this case, on draft day, the franchise’s next pick in the Diamond category will be considered its third Diamond selection, in accordance with category limits.
After finalizing retentions, franchises may draft players only from the remaining available pool in each category. If a captain chooses to retain himself as a player, this will be counted within the three allowed retentions (for example, one captain and two players). Player retention is not mandatory, and the decision rests entirely with the franchise owner and/or captain. Furthermore, if a player does not wish to continue with a particular franchise, ICC strongly recommends that the franchise does not retain that player. Every player has the right to choose where they wish to play and may opt out accordingly. ICC has officially announced this retention policy through its press release for the upcoming ICC Season 2.
